Introduction:
The BCGBA is steeped in history with a long line of President’s and Life Members of the organisation.
The Presidential roles are an annual duty, completed on a rota basis with a nomination and second being accepted at the organisations annual general meeting. The accepted candidates become Deputy Presidents and follow on the year after to be President when the BCGBA Ladies & Mens Individual Merit competitions are in their County.
Life Membership can be nominated by a member county and is awarded by the BCGBA Board to those who have made a significant contribution to the organisation.
Former World Snooker Champion and T.V Celebrity, John Parrott has been the British Crown Green Bowls Association’s Honorary Patron for over 30 Years.
John’s father was a keen Crown Green Bowler, playing in Merseyside for many years, and John was an accomplished crown green bowler as a junior.
With the Men’s Individual Merit Trophy being in John’s native Merseyside, at the Northern Club, we’re hoping to see him there to celebrate our sport.
John is pictured (left) with Barry Massey, County Secretary of the Potteries & District Crown Green Bowling Association.
I would like to thank Merseyside County Crown Green Bowling Association for my nomination to be British Crown Green Bowling Association President in 2026.
I have been involved in bowls as a player, then administrator, then Merseyside County Crown Green Bowling Association Official and then British Crown Green Bowling Association Official for over 50 years.
Crown Green Bowls seemed very different all those years ago when I stepped onto the green at the Hermitage Tavern in Liverpool to be shown how to play the game.
I soon lost count of the hours playing with and watching the club members enjoy the game as the green was in use every afternoon and evening. Hopefully, we can
start to see similar numbers playing the game in the future.
I would like to thank Pat Crowther and the Officers of the Merseyside County Crown Green Bowling Association for their support and their hard work in support of bowls which I am happy to support as Chairman.
I would also like to thank the officers of the British Crown Green Bowling Association for their continued work which I will do my very best to support.
I hope to get to as many events as possible in the coming months and hopefully the weather will be kind to us (fingers are crossed!).
Steve Davies
BCGBA President 2026
I would like to thank my county, Dudley & District Ladies CBGA for their nomination and belief in me for the role of BCGBA Ladies President in 2026.
I have been involved in bowling all my life, going to Saturday league games to support my Dad. I can’t remember Saturdays in the bowls season without a game. My first time on the green, that I can remember, is having a roll-up with my friend Clive after a Saturday game, were both about 6 years old.
I met my husband at a bowling green in 1979. He played Dad in a floodlight comp, lost of course, the rest is history.
My first league game was in 1984, for the Royal Oak Ladies bowling team, there were no mixed leagues in those days. I still play for same club and last year they made me President of the club. This year they honoured me with Life Membership.
I have served on numerous committees, as well as serving on the National Advisory Council. I became County Secretary in 1996 intending to serve for 2 years, but I am still in office.
I am looking forward to attending all of the Ladies competition finals this year and hope to see a lot of the friends I have made over the years as well as making some new ones.
Good luck to everybody this year.

As the Presidential Rota is linked directly hosting the Men’s and Ladies Individual Merits, it covers a period of time similar to the number of counties the sport has in both the Ladies & Men’s County Championship.
On the Men’s side that is 15 Counties. On the Ladies it sits at 20 Counties, which takes us currently to 2047 before Dudley & District get their turn again on the Presidential Rota.
Being nominated as President sits with your County Organisation to nominate you for the post and for another County to second that nomination.
This award is given at the discretion of the British Crown Green Bowls Association Board for outstanding contribution to the game and the association. Currently the association has nine Honorary Life Members, they are:
