BCGBA Membership

Introduction:

British Crown Green Membership is a very quick and easy process.

Not only that, if you start your bowling journey early in life, it’s 100% Free for anyone joining under the age of 18 (as on January 1st on your year of application). For the rest of us, the charge is currently a one off £20.00 for a Lifetime of Crown Green Bowls.

What amazing value !!

But what do you actually get for becoming a BCGBA Member?

Benefits of becoming a BCGBA Member

All Crown Green Clubs, Leagues, Associations and Counties operate under the Governance of the BCGBA. Being an individual member of the same organisation gives you access to all that they offer. What is that?

  • Through over 2000 Clubs you now have access to play in over 500 Leagues.
  • Access to all BCGBA Competitions where you meet the entry criteria.
  • Eligibility to enter any Open Competition ran by a BCGBA County, League or Club, again, if you meet the advertised entry criteria.
  • If your club has opted into the BCGBA Membership Benefit scheme, you will automatically receive Personal Accident benefits. See Insurance Details.

How to become a BCGBA Member

Membership Registration is completed through your Bowls Club Administration Team, normally headed up by the Club or Membership Secretary. Some clubs will have a form for you to complete. Details they will require for the BCGBA are as follows, with those marked with a (*) as being mandatory:

  • Full Name*
  • Address including Postcode*
  • Date of Birth*
  • Gender
  • Telephone No.s.
  • E-Mail Address
  • Ethnicity
  • Any Registered Disability

Although your E-Mail Address is not a mandatory requirement, this will create your private access to your own record in the New National Database as well as direct access to your digital BCGBA Membership No.

Your new digital Membership Card in time, is hoped to give BCGBA Members extra privileges such as discounts at events and with suppliers. So it’s worth getting access to it.

Watch for ‘News & Updates’ on this website for Database Updates.

Until the system is ready, County Membership Co-ordinators will arrange your new BCGBA No. and deliver it to you via e-mail or a membership card through the post.

Your club will liaise with them on your behalf.

Proof of BCGBA Membership

Your BCGBA Membership No. is fundamental to your bowls journey. It is a unique number that stays with you forever, and is the item that proves you are a member of the organisation.

Clubs, leagues, associations and counties will require your BCGBA No. to register you to be eligible for BCGBA affiliated events, such as leagues and competitions.

As the organisation moves from a physical ‘Credit Card’ system, that easily get lost and can be expensive to distribute, to a digital version that can be instantly acquired via the new database on your mobile phone, they are currently issuing an E-Mail version that comes from your Counties Membership Co-ordinator. If you have any issues with your card these people can help you.

You can find details for your Membership Co-ordinator in Regional Information.

The BCGBA Members Database

The new BCGBA Database sits behind the new website so is on hand at a click of a button.

Simply log-in with your E-Mail and password to access your own personal record and your all important BCGBA Membership No.

The system will contain the clubs you play for and the details of any organisational roles you have at your club(s). The system then provides you the access levels you require to complete tasks for your club, such as registering a new bowler or adding a new member to your club who’s transferred from elsewhere.

BCGBA Membership Frequently Asked Questions:

Why do the BCGBA need my details?

There’s a number of reasons:

  • Having a complete record of bowlers and what clubs they play in is a conditional factor of the Membership Benefits package that includes insurance cover from Howdens. Anyone not in the correct club is not covered within that group policy.
  • Having player numbers and their age-demographic across the country helps both the BCGBA & the Bowls Development Alliance with Sport England Funding Bids and to provide data that may protect clubs under threat via their local council pitch strategy documents.
  • There is a hope that the new Database and Website will improve the communication to all bowlers rather than relying on communication via the secretary network. The system allows us to highlight key groups within club memberships like Safeguarding Officers and Coaches.
How much does BCGBA Player membership cost?

The current charge for BCGBA Lifetime Membership is £20. However, if you are below the age of 18 as on January 1st of the respective calendar year, then Membership is free of charge. BUT, registration for your BCGBA Membership No. is still necessary.

I've lost my BCGBA Card and can't remember the No. What do I do?

Start with your County Membership Co-ordinator. They have access to the system to try and find bowlers who have lost their number.

They also normally have a historic record that’s been kept in County Archives, so can often find a No. from a long time ago.

Unfortunately, if it cannot be found, then re-application for a new number will be required.

I can't get into the New Database to change my personal details. How do I get access?

Your regional Membership Co-ordinator will be able to log-in and reset your log-in details and password.

If you have computer restrictions, again your Membership Co-ordinator can make amendments on your behalf.
