Frequently asked questions:

What is Safeguarding in Crown Green Bowls?

Safeguarding means protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, bullying or exploitation. Within BCGBA affiliated clubs, it ensures everyone can participate in bowls safely and confidently.

Who is considered a ‘child’ in safeguarding, and what is an 'Adult at Risk'?

Anyone under the age of 18 is legally considered a child in UK safeguarding legislation.

An adult at risk is someone aged 18 or over who:

  • Has care and support needs
  • Is experiencing, or is at risk of abuse or neglect
  • May be unable to protect themselves

This may include people with disabilities, mental health conditions, or age-related vulnerabilities.

What should I do if someone discloses a safeguarding concern?

If a child or adult at risk tells you something concerning:

DO:

  • Stay calm and listen carefully
  • Take what they say seriously
  • Reassure them they did the right thing telling you
  • Record facts accurately
  • Report immediately to the Club Safeguarding Officer

DO NOT:

  • Promise confidentiality
  • Ask leading questions
  • Investigate yourself
  • Confront the alleged person
How do I report a safeguarding concern in a BCGBA club?
