The 2026 Ladies Competitions Calendar got under way on Saturday 18th April with the Club Team Championship Finals. This year it was held in South Yorkshire across three venues. Barnsley Central & Dodworth Miners Welfare hosted two heats each, with the four group winners moving onto Penistone BC for the finals, in what is always a long days bowling for those who were successful and made it to the finals green.

Thankfully the weather was a little better than the event in 2025 when it was truly bitter in North Lancs & Fylde. But coats and bobble hats were still essential wearing by the time the field had been whittled down from 16 teams to the last two.

Qualifying from the Barnsley Central Greens and forming the first Semi-Final were locals, Dearne Sports and last years winners Springbank BC from Greater Manchester. While at Dodworth, Staffordshire’s Dilhorne BC and the ever present New Mills B from Yorkshire made it through and formed the second semi.

Dearne v Springbank was a one sided affair with local knowledge proving to be the dominant factor. Seven winners from the eight and six single figure wins (accpeting that matches are only 15up in this comeptition), meant the holders couldn’t retain their title.

Dilhorne v New Mills was a very different matter with the match being decided by a single shot. On paper Dilhorne’s Laura Hallsworth’s 15-5 and Janet Salmon’s 15-9 look like the decisive cards, but everyone can find a place in their game where a single shot got away. 

So we had a Dearne Sports (South Yorkshire) v Dilhorne BC (Staffordshire) Final.

Dilhorne’s Laura Hallsworth was at it again with a superb15-3 win at No.1. and a series of close matches to left Dilhorne 7 chalks up going into the last two games. But a 15-7 from Debbie Talbot at match 7 saw the South Yorkshire team hit the front for the first time, and Alex Edmondson brought it home for the locals with a 15-6 victory and an overall 10 shot win.
