The British Crown Green Bowling Association

Ladies County – Round 2

The Ladies County Championship and Presidents Trophy continued on Sunday 21st June with all teams either trying to cement their good start in May, or trying to get back into the group and give themselves a chance of main championship or Mavis Dearden Supplementary qualification in July.

BCGBA Update – Dan Newton

Following the update shared in May, I wanted to provide some further information on the progress made over the last 12 months and the direction of travel for the British Crown Green Bowling Association.

Welsh CBGA Centenary 2026

The earliest reference to be found which mentions the origin of the WCGBA is a small article in a North Wales newspaper of 1925. Clubs from Wales played friendlies with English counties before this date, but there was no umbrella organisation covering Crown Green in Wales.

Men’s County – Round 2

Irrespective of the first set of results, all Counties go into June’s second round of fixtures still plotting a way to the semi-finals. Some needed a win to keep that dream alive, but for those who started with a win in May, the chance to cement their advantage and ultimately eliminate teams in their group, always makes the second round of fixtures a fascinating day.

BDA Job Roles – Safeguarding

The BDA is seeking independent individuals to join its Safeguarding Case Management Group to support the fair, impartial, and effective management of safeguarding matters within the sport.

BCGBA Update – Dan Newton

Over the past nine months, I have spent a significant amount of time listening to people across Crown Green Bowls, players, staff, volunteers, counties, leagues, clubs, officials, coaches and board members, to better understand both the strengths of our sport and the challenges and opportunities facing the Association.

Ladies County – Round 1

The Ladies County Championship and Presidents Trophy started on Sunday 17th May with a full set of group games and all teams looking to make a winning start to the 2026 campaign. As usual all group winners progress to the Semi-Finals of the County Championship with group runners-up moving to the Mavis Dearden Supplementary competition in August.

Junior County – Round 1

Last weekend Shropshire produced one of the standout result in the BCGBA Junior County Championship over recent seasons. A thrilling encounter saw a one chalk victory over defending Champions Yorkshire in a superb contest played across two demanding venues.

Men’s County – Round 1

Preparation for the first round of BCGBA Men’s County Championship matches couldn’t have been worse for all those home teams. Five days of sunshine and practice on ‘quick wickets’, all to be dashed by a Saturday and Sunday full of rain and completely different conditions to the practice days. It’s the same for everyone isn’t it? So who coped and who didn’t?

Club Team Championship Final

The 2026 Club Team Championship Final was fought out at Meole Brace B.C on Sunday 26th April in the glorious Shropshire sunshine. A day that felt at least 20 degrees warmer than the qualifying rounds a month earlier in Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, North Lancs & Merseyside.
